Steps

  1. Open the instrument

Go to /app and wait until the forecast has loaded. The Freeze record button only appears with the readout; if you see The forecast did not load. press Retry first.

  2. Set up what you want recorded

Choose the place, the persona, the Height, your Limit and the hour on the time strip. The record is built from exactly what is on screen, and the hour you have selected becomes the record's forecast hour.

Tip: Pick the Route or Golf tab first if you want that analysis included. The agent's freeze always records the Point view.

  3. Check the readout

Look at the lamp, the main number, the P(>limit) figure and the exceedance fan. If something looks wrong, change it now. A frozen record cannot be edited.

  4. Press Freeze record

Click Freeze record in the panel beside the readout. The button shows Freezing… while it works. When it is done, a Record row appears with a link to the new record.

  5. Copy the link

The link is copied to your clipboard automatically when your browser allows it. If not, click the Copy record link button beside it. Paste the link wherever you need it.

Tip: The record is also added to the list on your Records page, on this device only.

01What a frozen record is

A frozen record is a public, unchangeable page that stores the packet you were looking at: the place, the forecast hour, the working height, your limit, the primary wind, direction and gust, the ensemble results for the hour, the nearest observation if there was one, the verdict, and a provenance table of the sources. It carries the line not a live forecast and it never refreshes. Anyone with its link can open it at /b/ followed by a ten-character id. See what a record contains and evidence records for the thinking behind it.

02When to freeze one

Freeze when you want a fixed answer to the later question of what the forecast said at the time you decided. Common moments are before a lift, a spray run, a flight or a sailing, or when handing a decision to a colleague. It is a record of the forecast and your limit, not of the decision itself, and it does not tell you whether to proceed. That judgement stays with the person responsible on site, using the limits in your own documents.

03What it takes from the screen

The record uses the place, height, limit, unit and hour currently selected. If the Route tab shows a worst segment, the route, its worst crosswind and best departure are included. If the Golf tab is open, up to the first 18 hole lines are included. A very large packet can be refused: the limit is 32 KB, and the ensemble can hold up to 240 hours. If you freeze again with different settings you simply get a second record, and the first stays as it was.

04Freezing through the agent

You can ask the agent to freeze the packet. It never freezes on its own. It proposes the action and shows a card titled Freeze this packet as a record? with the detail Writes an immutable, public brief with a link. Not a live forecast once frozen. Nothing happens until you press Confirm. The agent always records the Point view, so use the button yourself if you want Route or Golf data included. See why the agent asks for Confirm.

05Who can freeze, and for how long

You do not need an account to freeze a record. A signed-in account without an active plan may be refused while paid plans are enforced. Freezing is limited to 20 records a minute per network address, and past that you see a message beginning Freeze failed that says Too many briefs. Try again in one minute. Records are kept for 365 days, then the address shows No record at this address. Download the packet from the record page if you need to keep the data for longer.

06If something goes wrong

If the button is missing, the forecast has not loaded, so use Retry or reload /app. A line starting Freeze failed gives the reason, such as the rate limit above or Brief storage unavailable. Wait a minute and try again. If the agent says No packet is bound. Open /app on the hour you want to freeze., or No packet on this page to freeze., you are on a page with no instrument on screen, so go to /app first. If you cannot find a record afterwards, see record not found.

Questions

Can I edit a frozen record?

No. There is no edit route. If conditions or settings were wrong, set them correctly and freeze again to make a new record. The old record stays available until it expires.

How long is a frozen record stored?

For 365 days from when it was frozen. After that the link shows that the record does not exist or has expired. Forgetting a record from your Records list does not delete it, and anyone with the link can still open it until it expires.

Can I share the record with someone who has no account?

Yes. Copy the link with Copy record link and send it. Anyone with the address can open the page without signing in. You can also open it from the Records page; see find and share a record.

Does a record mean it is fine to go ahead?

No. A record stores modelled forecast figures against your own limit at one moment. It is evidence of what the forecast said, never a go-ahead, and its footer says it is a modelled forecast, not an on-site observation, and that you must confirm conditions on site.

What if I froze it with the wrong limit?

The record shows the limit that was in the field at the time and cannot be changed. Correct the limit in the instrument and freeze a new record. Share the new link and, if needed, tell people the earlier one was superseded.
