Talk to the people who built it.
Tell us what you do and which wind call you are trying to make. A person reads every message.
A person reads every message
The Wind Agent is run by Philippe Hetier and Mike English. Between us we read what arrives through this form and at mike@impt.io. There is no ticket queue in front of it and no chatbot answering on our behalf. If your question is about a forecast, a limit, a record or a plan, the person who replies has the product open in front of them.
We built the instrument for people who make a wind call at a particular height against a particular limit, so the best messages are about that call. Tell us what you do and we will talk about your work, not about weather in general.
What to put in your message
Four details let us answer in one reply instead of three:
- The place. A town, a harbour, a site name or coordinates. If you work across several places, give the two or three that matter most.
- The height. Where the work actually happens: a platform at twenty metres, a jib at sixty, a spray boom at two, a nacelle at a hundred. The instrument reads wind at its own levels and interpolates to your height, so the number matters.
- Your limit and its source document. The figure you work to and where it comes from: the manufacturer's manual, the structure's rating, the site rules, the club's sailing instructions. If you do not have a written limit, say so and we will explain how people in your work usually arrive at one.
- Which plan you are on, or considering. Starter, Pro, Ops or Enterprise. If you are not sure, tell us how many sites you watch and whether you need alerts, a morning brief, a fleet board or a public board.
A screenshot or a link to the page you were looking at helps too. Please do not send passwords or payment details by email or through the form; we never need them.
How quickly you will hear back
We usually reply the same day on weekdays. Weekend messages usually wait until Monday, and if something is time-critical for a lift, a race or an event this week, say so in the first line and we will treat it that way.
If your message needs a look at your sites, your alerts or your records, we will say what we are checking. If we cannot answer something, we will say that too rather than guess.
Pilots: one road, one event, one fleet
Councils, road and bridge operators, event companies, port and harbour authorities, energy operators and large contractors usually start with a small pilot rather than a contract. A good pilot is one road or bridge, one event, or one fleet of sites, run for a season or a few weeks of storms, so that the records it produces can be judged against what actually happened.
To scope a pilot we need:
- The sites or route, and the heights that matter at each.
- The limits you work to and the documents that set them.
- Who makes the call, who needs to see it, and how they want to be told.
- The period you want covered, and any measured data you already hold that we should compare against.
Use the "Enterprise plan" option in the form above and we will come back with questions, not a brochure.
API, data, press and partnerships
API and data
The wind and decision endpoints are documented in the API reference. Write to us if you need higher volumes, a dataset for a specific region, or help mapping your own sites and limits onto the endpoints.
Press
For interviews, background on how the odds are built, or a comment on a named storm, tell us your deadline in the first line. We can explain the method plainly and point you to the records the instrument keeps.
Partnerships and trade bodies
Sailing clubs, training bodies, industry federations and professional associations are welcome to write about member pilots, talks or shared boards. Tell us who the members are and what call they make.
Support for paid accounts
If you are on a paid plan and something looks wrong, such as an alert that did not arrive or a record that looks incomplete, say which site and which time, and we will look at it directly.
Or email us directly
If you would rather not use a form, write to mike@impt.io. The same details help, and the same people read it.
Before you write
Common questions
Do I need an account to write to you?
No. The form and the email address work for anyone. If you already have an account, say which email it is under so we can look at your sites and plan while we answer, but nothing about the question depends on it.
Can you tell me what my limit should be?
No. Your limit comes from your own document: the machine's data plate and manual, the structure's rated wind load, your site rules, your club's notice of race or the instructor's guidance. We can show you where people in your kind of work usually find it and how to type it into the instrument, but the figure and the call stay with you and the competent person on site.
How long does an answer take?
We usually reply the same day on weekdays. A message sent late on Friday or over a weekend usually gets its answer on Monday. Questions that need a look at your sites or an API key can take a little longer, and we say so when that is the case.
Is it worth writing if I only run one site or one boat?
Yes. Most of the questions we receive are from one person making one repeated call: a crane lift, a spray pass, a lesson, a sailing day. Say what the call is and what height it happens at, and we will tell you which plan fits and how to set the instrument up for it.
