Steps

  1. Sign in on an Ops account

The snippet is an Ops feature. Sign in at /account with an Ops or Enterprise account first. Signed out you only see Public boards are on Ops. with a Sign in link, and on Starter or Pro you see a lock with the same message.

  2. Build the board address

Open /embed/live followed by the settings for your place, for example ?lat=52.3389&lon=-7.6489&name=Clonmel&limit=25&height=10&unit=mph&metric=gust&configure=1. Only lat and lon are required. The others are name (up to 80 characters), limit, height (1 to 500 m), unit (m/s, mph, km/h or kt, default mph) and metric (gust or speed).

Tip: Without metric the board uses gust at 10 m or lower and mean speed above 10 m. The limit is read in the unit you pass.

  3. Check the board

The page now shows the board exactly as visitors will see it: the header PUBLIC BOARD · LIVE, the limit line, the wind readout, the lamp and the next 24 hours of odds. Change the address and reload until it looks right.

Tip: The board is built only from the address. It does not read your saved sites or their rules, so type the limit you want shown.

  4. Find EMBED THIS BOARD

Because the address contains configure=1, a section headed EMBED THIS BOARD appears below the board once you are signed in on Ops. Without configure=1 there is no snippet.

  5. Copy the iframe snippet

Click into the box labelled Iframe snippet. It selects the whole text. Copy it. It is an iframe tag pointing at /embed/live with your settings, 100% wide, 460 pixels high, no border and lazy loading.

  6. Paste it into your page

Paste the snippet into the HTML of the page where the board should appear and publish it. Visitors do not need an account.

Tip: If the box stays empty on your site, load the same address directly in a browser tab to see whether the board itself answers.

01What visitors see on the live board

The live board shows the wordmark and PUBLIC BOARD · LIVE, then a line such as GUST LIMIT · 25 mph (or MEAN WIND LIMIT, or not set), the place name, the wind at your height with its direction and gust, the lamp, a small wind-profile graphic and, if a limit is set, a strip of the next 24 hours marked where the odds reach 40%. The footer shows when it last updated and the time zone, with a note that it is a modelled forecast and not an on-site measurement. Each visitor's browser fetches the data itself and re-fetches every 10 minutes while the page stays open.

02How the lamp is decided

With a limit set, the lamp is STOP if any hour in the next 24 shows a primary forecast at or above the limit, or if the highest ensemble odds reach 70%. It is WATCH if the odds reach 40%, and GO below that. With no limit, or with no ensemble result, it shows UNKNOWN. This is a simpler rule than the fleet board, which also applies a near-miss band and your shift window, so the two can differ. See what the lamps mean.

03Your limit is visible on the board

The limit is part of the address and it is printed on the board, so visitors can see it. If you do not want to publish a limit, leave the limit setting out. The board then shows not set and an UNKNOWN lamp, with the wind readout only. Anyone can also read the limit in the iframe address.

04The frozen-record board

You can also embed a single frozen record. Every record page has a Public board link that opens /embed followed by the record's ten-character id. It is a compact view with the recorded wind, the verdict lamp, the issue time and a Full record link, and it never updates. It carries a STALE badge once more than six hours have passed since it was issued, which only tells viewers that it is not live. See freeze a record.

05Understanding STALE on the live board

STALE appears when the board could not get fresh data, or when it has a limit but the ensemble did not load. If the forecast request fails, the board shows its last good reading from that visitor's browser with STALE · LAST GOOD PACKET, then tries again 10 minutes later. A visitor whose browser has nothing saved yet sees The forecast did not answer. and UNKNOWN · no packet cached on this device yet. Retrying every 10 minutes. A browser that blocks local storage simply cannot show the last good packet.

06If the frame is blank or wrong

A board without lat and lon shows This board needs lat and lon. with an example link. Test the address in its own tab before embedding it. Nothing in the service limits which websites may embed the board, so there is no allowed-host list to configure. A frame that stays blank on your site is most likely blocked by your own site's settings, such as a content security policy. If the record board says No record at this address., the record id is wrong or the record has expired after a year.

Questions

How often does the live board update?

Every 10 minutes while the page is open in a visitor's browser, plus once when it loads. The upstream forecast itself changes more slowly, so you will often see the same numbers twice.

What plan do I need?

Ops or Enterprise for the snippet box. The board page itself is just a web address, but the tool that gives you the iframe code is on Ops. See which plan do I need.

Does the board use the rule saved on my site?

No. It uses only the settings in its address: place, height, unit, metric and limit. Changing a saved site's rule does not change an embedded board, and you need to update the iframe address to change it.

What does STALE · LAST GOOD PACKET mean?

The visitor's browser could not refresh the forecast and is showing the last reading it stored. It will try again in 10 minutes. It is not live data, so do not rely on it during a fast-changing situation.

Can I embed a board for a place I have not saved?

Yes. Any latitude and longitude works. You still need an Ops account to see the snippet box, but the place does not have to be one of your saved sites.
