How do I create an account and sign in?
Create an account with your name, email and a password of at least 10 characters, sign in again later, and see what an account adds and what still works without one.

Steps
Open the Account page
Go to /account, or use the Account link in the site header or the Account icon at the bottom of the instrument's left rail. If you are signed out you will see the heading Every site. One account. with a form beneath it.
Stay on the Create account tab
The form opens on Create account. If it shows Sign in instead, click the Create account tab above the fields.
Fill in your details
Type your Name (up to 80 characters), your Email and a Password. The password must be at least 10 characters; the hint under the field reads At least 10 characters. and your browser will refuse a shorter one.
Submit the form
Click Create account. The button shows Working… for a moment and then you are signed in. If you came from the pricing page, you are sent back there to carry on to checkout.
Sign in on a later visit
Open /account, click the Sign in tab, enter your Email and Password and click Sign in.
Sign out when you finish
On the Account page, click Sign out next to your email at the top. Do this on any shared computer.
01What an account adds
An account lets you save sites, each with a working height and a rule, and it unlocks alerts, API keys and the fleet board on the plans that include them. The Account page, once you are signed in, holds your Profile (name, email, member-since date), your Plan, Display preferences, Saved sites and API keys. The Starter plan allows three saved sites and a 7-day forecast. While paid plans are being enforced, a new account on Starter must start the $5 a month plan before it can save sites, alerts or records; the page tells you so and offers a Start for $5/month button. See what The Wind Agent is for the wider picture and save your first site for the next step.
02Password rules
The only rule the form enforces is length: at least 10 characters, and the server rejects anything over 200. There are no required symbols or digits, so a long passphrase is a good choice. Passwords are stored as salted hashes, not as text. There is currently no forgotten-password link and no way to change your password or email from the Account page, so keep your password somewhere you can find it.
03Signing in and staying signed in
After you sign in, a session cookie keeps you signed in on that browser for up to 30 days unless you sign out. Opening /account while the page checks that cookie shows Checking your session… for a moment, then your account or the sign-in form. Signing in on a second device starts a separate session there. The sign-in form is rate limited to 12 attempts a minute from one network address; past that you will see Too many attempts. Try again in one minute.
04If sign in fails
A wrong email or password shows Email or password is incorrect. Check for typos and capital letters. Trying to create an account with an email that already has one shows An account already exists for this email., so use the Sign in tab instead. A password under 10 characters or an invalid email shows Use a valid email and a password of at least 10 characters. If you see Account service unavailable. or Account service is temporarily unavailable., the service could not be reached; wait a few minutes and try again, and use the /contact page if it persists. Nothing in the code locks an account after wrong attempts, only the one-minute rate limit applies.
05What works without an account
You do not need an account to use the instrument at /app, the charts, the Learn pages or the agent. You can search places, set a height and limit, scrub the time strip, use Route and Golf modes, open Cab mode and freeze a record. What you cannot do without an account is save sites, arm email alerts, create API keys or reach the fleet board. Your last place, persona, height, limit and unit are still remembered, but only in that browser. See search a place and set your working height.
06Where your data lives
Your name, email and saved sites are held on the service's servers, so they follow you to any device you sign in on. Display preferences (persona preset and units on the Account page) and the list of records you froze are kept only in the browser on that device. Card details are handled by the payment provider and never reach this service. You can remove a saved site from the Account page, but there is no delete-account button, so write via /contact if you want an account removed.
Questions
Can I have two accounts with the same email?
No. If you try, the form answers An account already exists for this email. and you should use the Sign in tab. Each account is tied to one email address.
Is there a password reset?
Not at present. The sign-in form has no forgotten-password link and the Account page has no way to change your password. If you cannot get in, contact the team through the /contact page.
Can I change my email address or name later?
The Profile section on the Account page is read-only: it shows your Name, Email and Member since date and has no edit fields. To use a different email you would need to create a new account and add your sites again.
Is an email confirmation required?
No. There is no email verification step. You are signed in as soon as you click Create account, and the address is not checked, so type it carefully.
Do I need an account to freeze a record or ask the agent?
No. Both work for visitors who are not signed in. The agent's tools that read your saved sites, change a rule or set the morning brief do need a signed-in account.
