How to choose a persona preset and a speed unit
Pick a persona preset and a display unit from the top bar of the instrument, and learn what each preset sets, what it leaves blank and what is remembered.

Steps
Open the instrument
Go to /app. The top bar runs left to right: the wordmark, the place search, the Persona preset menu, the Height stepper, the Limit stepper and the Display unit menu.
Tip: On a phone the Height and Limit steppers also sit inside the inspector panel. The Persona preset and Display unit menus exist only in the top bar.
Choose a persona preset
Open the Persona preset menu and pick the one closest to your work: Crane, Drone, Spray, Marine, Golf, Wind ops, Motorsport or Event. The instrument immediately sets the height, unit, limit and starting tab for that preset.
Tip: Pick the preset first and adjust the other controls afterwards, because choosing a preset overwrites them.
Check the Height and Limit
Look at the Height stepper (metres) and the Limit stepper. Change either one to match your job. Height runs from 2 to 300 m in steps of 5, and you can also type any value in that range. Most presets leave the Limit empty, so the field shows set limit until you type your own figure.
Choose a display unit
Open the Display unit menu and pick m/s, mph, kt or km/h. Every wind figure on the instrument is redrawn in that unit, and the number in the Limit field is converted to match.
Let the instrument remember
Nothing needs saving. The instrument stores your place, persona, height, limit and unit in this browser and restores them next time you open /app on the same device.
Tip: A link with values in its address, for example a height or unit, overrides what is stored.
01What a persona preset sets
A persona preset is a starting bundle of four things: a working height, a display unit, a limit (usually none) and a starting tab. Crane starts at 80 m in m/s. Drone starts at 120 m in m/s. Spray starts at 10 m in m/s. Marine starts at 10 m in knots. Golf starts at 10 m in mph. Wind ops starts at 120 m in m/s. Motorsport starts at 10 m in km/h. Event starts at 10 m in m/s. If you open /app with nothing stored and nothing in the link, you start on Golf: 10 m, mph, a limit of 8 mph and the Golf tab.
02Which wind figure each preset reads
Each preset also has a preferred metric. Marine, Motorsport and Event prefer gust, Spray and Wind ops prefer mean speed, and Golf reads crosswind. In practice the instrument honours the gust preference only when the height is exactly 10 m, because the models define gust at 10 m. At any other height it evaluates mean speed at that height. That means Crane at 80 m and Drone at 120 m check mean speed, not gust. There is no Gust or Mean switch on the instrument; the metric follows from the preset and the height. If your limit document is written for gust or for mean speed, you choose that when you build a rule for a saved site.
03Why most limits start empty
Crane, Drone, Marine, Wind ops, Motorsport and Event deliberately start with no limit. Your limit belongs to your own document, such as a manufacturer's load chart, a flight manual or a method statement, and the instrument does not guess one. Two presets do carry a figure: Spray starts at 11.2 mph, which is 5 m/s, and Golf starts at 8 mph. Treat those as placeholders and replace them with your own number. Until a limit is set, the lamp reads NO LIMIT and no exceedance odds are calculated. See set your limit for the full steps.
04Starting tabs and the Spray height
Choosing Golf opens the Golf tab, and choosing Motorsport opens the Route tab. Every other preset, including Wind ops and Event, opens the Point tab. The Spray preset's own note mentions a 2 m boom height, which is below the lowest model level and is badged as extrapolated. The preset itself starts at 10 m, so if you want 2 m you need to type 2 into the Height field.
05Changing units and what converts
The Display unit menu offers m/s, mph, kt and km/h, in that order. Changing it only changes how numbers are shown. The limit you typed is kept, and its displayed value converts. For example, 10 m/s becomes about 22 mph. Speeds show whole numbers except in m/s, which shows one decimal. Wind direction is always degrees true, given as where the wind comes from. Route mode's groundspeed field is always km/h whatever unit you choose. For the arithmetic see units and conversions.
06The account page has its own copy
The Account page has a Display preferences section with its own Persona preset and Display units menus. These are saved on that device, under a different store from the instrument's, and they drive how the Account, Fleet board and Alerts pages show speeds and which work type a new saved site starts with. They do not change the instrument at /app. If you want the same unit in both places, set it in both.
Questions
Can I create my own persona preset?
No. There are eight fixed presets. You can start from any of them and change the height, limit and unit freely, and the instrument remembers your last values on that device, but there is no way to save a named custom preset.
Does picking a preset reset my limit?
Yes. Choosing a persona overwrites the height, unit, limit and tab with that preset's values, so a limit you typed earlier is replaced, usually by an empty field. Choose the preset first, then set the height and limit. There is no per-persona memory of limits.
Does the preset change my saved sites?
No. Each saved site keeps its own working height and rule. Changing a preset on the instrument does not touch them. Changing the preset on the Account page only affects the default work type offered when you add a new site.
Can I use a different unit for each site?
No. There is one display unit for the instrument and one for the account pages, not one per site. When you type a limit it is read in the unit currently selected and stored internally in mph, so switching units later converts the display without changing the limit.
Where do I change the working height?
In the top bar on /app, using the Height stepper. It accepts 2 to 300 m. On a phone the same stepper is repeated inside the inspector panel. See how to set your working height.
