How to arm an alert rule on a site
Arm an email alert in the rule sheet on the alerts page: pick gust or mean speed, a threshold from your own document, the look-ahead, and tick the email box. Alerts read the 10 m forecast.

Steps
Open the alerts page
Go to /alerts and sign in if asked. The page is headed Alert rules. and says rules are evaluated every 30 minutes. Signed out you only see a prompt to sign in to arm rules on your sites.
Make sure you have a saved site
A rule belongs to a saved site. With no site, the page says to add a site first and offers Add a site, which opens your account page at the sites section. Choose a place, give it a name, a work type and a working height, then press Save site.
Tip: The note under the form says to set the limit afterwards. On Starter and Pro that is done here on /alerts.
Open the rule sheet
With a site saved and no rule yet, press Set a rule. Once some sites have rules, press New rule at the top. It opens the first site that has no rule. There is no site picker, so to add rules to several sites press it once per site, or use the pencil on a rule row to change an existing one.
Tip: Ask the agent to save a rule on a named site if you want a particular one. It saves the rule only, and you still tick the email box here.
Name your limit
The sheet is titled Name your limit. Choose Gust or Mean speed, choose at or above or at or below, and type the threshold from your own document in your display unit. Set the asset height, a label and, if you wish, the source document.
Tip: The label shows in the alert email. If you leave it blank it is saved as Gust limit or Wind limit.
Tick the email box and set the look-ahead
Tick Email me when the forecast breaches this rule. It starts unticked, and without it no email is ever sent. Then set Alert look-ahead in hours, from 1 to 72. The default is 24. The look-ahead field stays greyed out until the box is ticked.
Save and test
Press Save rule. The rule row now shows a sentence such as If gust at 10 m at or above 25 mph in the next 24 h, email on. Press Preview now to see what it would do with the current forecast. Nothing is sent or recorded by a preview.
01Before you start
You need an account and one saved site. Email alerts start on Pro, so on Starter the email box is refused with a message that alerts start on Pro, though you can still save a rule and use Preview now. Where plan limits are not switched on, the box saves normally. Alerts are checked every 30 minutes against each saved site that has a rule with the email box ticked. See which plan do I need.
02What an alert reads
An alert compares the forecast hour by hour, at the 10 m model level, with your threshold, for the number of hours you set. It uses the best-match model for the next three days and no ensemble odds. The rule row states this, and adds a note when your asset height is not 10 m, since the fleet board and the instrument show the height-matched value instead. So a lamp on the fleet board and an alert can differ. See how alerts work.
03Gust or Mean speed
The rule sheet offers Gust and Mean speed. Use whichever your own document states for its limit. Gust at 10 m is read directly from the forecast, and mean speed is the 10 m mean. For a gust rule on an asset that is not at 10 m, the sheet notes that gust is defined at 10 m by the models, is scaled by the mean-speed ratio elsewhere, and that ensemble odds stay at 10 m. Heights outside 10 to 180 m are extrapolated and badged as low confidence. Enter the threshold in your display unit. It is stored in mph. See set your limit.
04Look-ahead and email
The look-ahead is how many hours from now an alert covers. You can set 1 to 72 hours, with 24 as the default. The forecast used is three days long, so anything past about 72 hours cannot trigger. Unticked, the email box leaves the rule in place for Preview now but nothing is sent by the scheduled check. Email is the only channel, sent to the address on your account.
05Editing and removing a rule
Press the pencil on the rule row to edit the same sheet, then Save rule. A saved change is used from the next 30-minute scan. The trash icon, Remove rule, deletes the rule and also clears the email setting and look-ahead for that site. Alerts for hours already sent in the last seven days are not repeated for that site, even after an edit.
06Reading the rule row
Each rule row shows a sentence of the rule, the label and source document, when it last fired and a chip. The chip reads FIRED if an alert went out in the last 36 hours, and CLEAR otherwise. It is not the live state of the wind. Preview now gives the live check: WOULD FIRE with each window, CLEAR with the hours checked, or UNKNOWN with the number of missing hours. Below the rules, the feed lists alerts already sent.
07If saving fails
If the threshold box is empty or not above zero you see a message that you must enter your threshold from the governing document. A height outside 1 to 500 m says so. A look-ahead outside 1 to 72 hours says so. If the server refuses, its message is shown, for example that alerts start on Pro. Otherwise it says the rule could not be saved, or removed, and you can try again. See why an alert did not fire once it is saved.
Questions
How often are alert rules checked?
Every 30 minutes. Each scan reads the forecast for every saved site with a rule and the email box ticked, checks the hours inside the look-ahead, and sends one email per new breach window.
Will I get the same alert repeatedly?
No. Every hour of a window already alerted is remembered for seven days for that site, so a window that continues does not fire again. A genuinely new window later in the forecast does.
Which height does an alert use?
The 10 m model level, whatever working height you set. The fleet board and the instrument show the height-matched value, so the two can differ.
What happens if forecast data is missing?
Missing hours count as unknown and close any breach window. They are never treated as calm. With no breach and some hours missing the result is UNKNOWN and nothing is sent.
Can I test a rule without sending anything?
Yes. Press Preview now on the rule row. It checks the current forecast and shows WOULD FIRE, CLEAR or UNKNOWN. Nothing is emailed or recorded.
